Ahrefs vs. Moz Pro: The 2025 Battle for SEO Supremacy.

Both tools will tell you what you rank for. The difference is in what they help you do next, and that difference is large enough that the right answer depends almost entirely on who is going to be using it.

We run both. Here is where each one earns its subscription.

Where Ahrefs wins

Link data, still. The index is larger and refreshes faster, and for competitive analysis that gap is the whole game. Content Explorer is the underrated feature — it is the fastest way to find out whether a topic has ever worked for anyone before you commission it.

Where Moz Pro wins

Onboarding and interpretation. Moz explains what a number means and what to do about it, which matters enormously if the person opening the tool is a generalist marketer rather than an SEO. Domain Authority is a blunt instrument and it is also the only metric a client will remember.

  • Ahrefs for link building and competitive research
  • Moz for reporting to people who are not SEOs
  • Either one for rank tracking; the difference is noise

The honest recommendation

If you have a specialist, buy Ahrefs. If SEO is one of six things somebody owns, buy Moz Pro — the tool that gets used beats the tool that is better. If you can afford both, use Ahrefs for analysis and Moz for the monthly report, which is what we do.

What neither will do is tell you what to write. That is still a conversation with customers, and no keyword tool has ever replaced it.
