How to Win on Google and Social When No One Clicks Through.
Zero-click is not a Google problem. Every platform now answers the question in the feed, because that is what keeps people in the feed. Search results, social carousels and AI summaries all take the same position: your content is the raw material, and the click is optional.
You can complain about that or you can plan for it. Only one of those is a strategy.
Optimise to be quoted, not to be visited
If the answer is going to be extracted, make the extractable part the part you want attributed. Lead with a clear, self-contained claim. Put your own data near the top. Name yourself inside the sentence that will be lifted, because a citation is the impression you actually receive.
Change what you count
Sessions will fall while visibility rises, and if sessions are your headline metric that reads as a failure. Track impressions and branded search alongside them; branded search volume is the cleanest available proxy for whether the zero-click impressions are doing anything.
- Answer the question in the first forty words
- Use your own numbers — they cannot be paraphrased away
- Track branded search as a demand signal
- Reserve the click for something worth clicking for

Where the click still exists
Nobody extracts a calculator, a configurator, a benchmark you can run against your own data, or a community. Interactive and participatory content is the part of the web that still requires arriving, which is exactly why it is where the remaining traffic is going.
Publish the answer freely. Keep the tool on your own site.
