The 7 Content Marketing Mistakes That Are Silently Killing Your ROI.

None of these will show up as a failure. That is what makes them expensive — every one produces a content programme that looks busy, reports well and returns nothing, for years at a time.

We find at least three of them in almost every audit.

Writing for the search engine's question

Keyword tools return the questions people type, which are not the questions people have. "Best CRM software" is a search query; "will this survive my sales team refusing to use it" is the actual worry. Content that answers the query ranks and does not convert.

Publishing on a cadence instead of a reason

Two posts a week is a production target, not a strategy, and it guarantees that the fourth-best idea of the fortnight gets published. Publish when there is something to say and spend the saved time promoting what you already published.

  • No distribution plan — the piece ships and stops
  • One long article where five short ones were needed
  • Updating nothing; last year's best post is decaying now
  • Measuring traffic when the goal was trust
  • A house style so neutral it could be any company

The cheapest fix

Take your ten best-performing pieces and spend a month improving and re-promoting them instead of writing ten new ones. The ceiling on an existing ranking piece is almost always higher than the floor on a new one, and the work is half as hard.

Almost nobody does this, which is why it keeps working.
